Commissioning

Commissioning a new piece of music is a gift shared by many: the composer, the performers, and every listener who encounters the work. Sponsoring the creation of a new piece of music can serve as a memorial, commemorative, or dedicatory act that can resonate far beyond a single concert, giving life to something entirely new and lasting.

Cost

Any ensemble or individual can, or rather, should be able to commission new music.

While it’s true that composers set fees that reflect the time and care a project requires, every commission is unique. Scope, length, instrumentation, and timeline all shape what’s possible. I’m especially mindful of working with ensembles of varying means, and I have a soft spot for small church choirs, school groups, and community ensembles who may not traditionally see commissioning as an option.

If you’re curious, I encourage you to reach out. We can have an honest, low-pressure conversation and explore what might work for your ensemble and your budget. If we're talking brass tacks, I generally receive between $250 and $500 per minute of music.
